In Somalia, bats are seen as helpers with taking messages to others, just like pigeons in other parts of the world. There is also a song in Somali by Hassan Diiriye, called Fiitmeer which is about sending messages to someone you love with the help of a bat.

Soomaalida waxay utaqaanaa fiidmeer. Waxaa loo adeegsadaa sida qoolayda ay u adeegsadaan meelo badan oo aduunka ka mid ah sida in la yiraahdo, “fariin iigu geey qof aan jeclahay”. Waxaana laga sameeyaa heeso, oo waxaa jirta hees caan ah oo looyaqaano Fiidmeerta Duushaay oo waxaa qaado fanaan caan ahaa AUN oo la dhihi jiray Xasan Diiriye.

The above text is the Somali translation of the English comment before. Bat in Somali is Fiitmeer but it is also called Kibili.

In Italian culture, bats often have negative connotations. As with other traditionally Christian countries, bats are often associated with the devil. For this reason, many representations of demons include bat wings, in contrast with angels, that have bird’s wings instead. Despite, this bad reputation there are some descriptions of bats that also highlight more positive attributes.
In the poem below by famous Italian poet Alda Merini, bats are described as cute flying mice that appear even cartoon-like (“topino volante, sembri un disegno animato”).

    Translation from Japanese:

Bats used to be auspicious animals. This is the same in China. However, the influence of the West has turned it into an ominous animal. Now bats are proliferating in cities.

    Bats in Romania
In Romania all bats are insectivores, they feed on crepuscular and nocturnal insects from
different habitats such as meadows, fields agricultural, forests, and wet, and aquatic habitats.
Bats consume very large quantities of harmful insects, for the control of which farmers and
foresters would have to pay exorbitant sums every year. Forests are particularly important for
around two thirds of Europe’s bat species, providing them with essential opportunities for
roosting and feeding: Bats use tree trunks and loose bark for roosting during one period of
their life cycle, and some of them rely on these roosts for breeding and hibernation. That is
why the protection and conservation of the habitats of the Apuseni Nature Park are
particularly important for the bat species identified in its area. Of the 32 species of bats
present in Romania, 23 species have been identified in the Apuseni Nature Park so far.
Within the project “Development of tools for the adaptive management of natural capital in
the protected areas Apuseni Natural Park, ROSCI0002 Apuseni, ROSPA0081 Apuseni
Mountains Vlădeasa and ROSCI0016 Buteasa” co-financed by the European Regional
Development Fund through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program 2014-2020, we
have the pleasure to release the short documentary film with the CHIROPTERS from the
Apuseni Nature Park and the integrated natural protected areas.
