Le lopophore resplendissant ( en anglais « le monal de l’Himalaya » ) est l’oiseau national du Népal. Les historiens naturels européens ont souvent donné de nouveaux noms aux oiseaux et aux animaux qu’ils ont « découverts » dans différentes parties du monde. Brian Houghton Hodgson était l’un des rares à incorporer des noms locaux pour des espèces qui n’étaient pas encore documentées dans une langue européenne. Les exemples incluent le monal de l’Himalaya, dérivé du « moonal » en ourdou (également connu sous le nom de « danphe » en népalais), et le cutie du Népal, dérivé du « khutya » en népalais.
