溶けた金属とガラスの塊、広島

これは1945年の広島市への原爆投下によって溶けた金属とガラスの塊です。第二次世界大戦中、原子爆弾が製造され、広島と長崎という日本の二都市に投下され、民間人を中心とした少なくとも10万人が死亡しました。

エネルギーを生成する原子力発電は同じ過程から生まれています。原子力発電所は多くの人々によって化石燃料と再生可能エネルギーの間のギャップを埋める良い解決策だと考えられています。なぜならば比較的安全であり、化石燃料の利点(例えば天候に左右されない点)を持ちながら、温室効果ガスを発生させないという特徴があるからです。
