Figury szachowe z kości słoniowej

U szczytu “sinomanii” w latach 70. XIX w., rosnąca liczba mieszkańców Manchesteru miała w swoich domowych kolekcjach obiekty sprowadzone z Chin (bądź pseudo-chińskie). Wielu posiadaczy nigdy nie odwiedziło nawet Państwa Środka.

Figury szachowe w posiadaniu Muzeum są częścią rzeźbionego zestawu z czerwonej i białej kości słoniowej. Powstały one na początku XIX wieku z myślą o eksporcie na market europejski. U podstawy pionków znajdują się delikatnie wyrzeźbione ruchome kule, jedna w drugiej.

A czy Ty kolekcjonujesz coś ciekawego?
