Aceastǎ iarba de mare a fost descoperitǎ ȋn 1855 iar ȋn 1886 a fost colectatǎ pentru ultima datǎ lȃngǎ Sydney,  ȋn Port Jackson, Australia. De atunci aceste alge marine nu au mai fost vǎzute si se presupune cǎ aceastǎ iarbǎ de mare a dispǎrut in acest timp. Nǎmolul din zonǎ a fost agitat datoritǎ acitivitǎţilor umane şi ar fi blocat lumina necesarǎ acestor alge, Aceasta se crede a fi cauza dispariţiei acestor alge.
