Maharajah

Maharajah es un elefante asiático con una historia fascinante. Ha inspirado obras de arte y novelas. Desde la India hasta Edimburgo, Belle Vue, el museo de Manchester, y la última parada en el viaje de Maharajah fue la estación de tren de Piccadilly el pasado verano.

El museo de Manchester tiene una larga tradición de colaboración con diferentes comunidades. El pasado año, tuvimos ushebtis en colegios, un pavo real en un restaurante…. Y un elefante en la estación de tren de Piccadilly!

Los dueños de Belle Vue Zoological Gardens compraron a Maharajah en 1872, en un circo ambulante en Edimburgo. Pero nadie podría convencer a Maharajah para que subiera a un tren, así que el cuidador Lorenzo Lawrence llevó a Maharajah caminando a lo largo de 200 millas, lo que le llevó un total de 10 días.

Tenemos #savetheelephantday (día de ´Salva al elefante´), un día para recordar el peligro y las diferentes dificultades que los elefantes tienen que enfrentar a diario para poder sobrevivir.
