Se si chiedesse alla gente qual’è la bevanda più importanti per loro, molte persone senza dubbio risponderebbero che è il tè.

Il tè è originario dell’Asia orientale, ma è diffuso in tutto il mondo. Le distinte varietà e i diversi modi di berlo sono una fonte di  orgoglio per molti paesi. Alcuni esempi sono il karkadè egiziano, di un colore rosso molto vivido poiché è fatto con i boccioli di rosa; il “cha yen” (“tè freddo”) tailandese, fatto con latte condensato; il “matcha” giapponese, di un colore verde vivido; e il “masala chai” dell’India, preparato con cannella, noce moscata, chiodi di garofano e zenzero, ingredienti che gli conferiscono un aroma e un sapore distintivi.

    When I was a child some members of my family were living in Libya and I clearly remember my aunt mentioning karkadè once when visiting our home in Italy. A few years ago I spent some time in Jakarta and a lady who lived near my flat gave me some dried hibiscus flowers to make a drink which I guess is like karkadè. It was a deep shade of red and aromatic and delicious. The hibiscus flower is called “rosella” in Bahasa Indonesia.
