Tee

Kun ihmisiltä kysytään mikä on heidän kulttuurinsa tärkein juoma, monet vastaavat sen olevan tee.

Teen valmistuksen ja juonnin ajatellaan alun perin alkaneen Itä-Aasiassa, mutta teen juonti on levinnyt myöhemmin ympäri maailmaa. Teen erilaisista lajikkeista ja juomistavoista on tullut monien maiden ylpeys. Egyptiläinen karkadeh on kirkkaan punaista siinä käytettyjen ruusunnuppujen ansiosta; cha yen (’jäätee’) on valmistettu thaimaalaisesta maitotiivisteestä; kirkkaan vihreä matcha on peräisin Japanista; ja masala chai – jonka tunnusomainen tuoksu ja maku ovat lähtöisin kanelista, muskottipähkinästä, neilikasta ja inkivääristä – on peräisin Intiasta.

Mikä on sinun mielestäsi paras tapa keittää teetä?

When I was a child some members of my family were living in Libya and I clearly remember my aunt mentioning karkadè once when visiting our home in Italy. A few years ago I spent some time in Jakarta and a lady who lived near my flat gave me some dried hibiscus flowers to make a drink which I guess is like karkadè. It was a deep shade of red and aromatic and delicious. The hibiscus flower is called “rosella” in Bahasa Indonesia.
